Just Finished: Horizon Zero Dawn

So after a month or so of off and on gaming I finally finished Horizon Zero Dawn and I must say it was a really good journey.

The story was well written and it was good to see the heroine, Aloy, grow from being a small kid, to a badass hunter. Though I must say the supporting cast couldve had more work. No one stood out as much and were mostly forgettable.

The side mission too were a bit boring. I mean, as with the other open world games, the world is littered with people who will hand you quests and this game is no different. However, most of the quests were a bit on the generic side and none really stood out.

Also, the combat is the meat of the game. It is during combat where the game shines the most. Unfortunately, as I think its because its an open world, we couldnt have a lot of monsters like in Capcom’s Monster Hunter series. There are about 15 or so, from the top of my head, robot animals. These range from horse like ones to the big T-rex looking ones.

Near the end game though, you just get an endless repeat of all of them and unlike monster hunter, where the monsters have a lot of hp and take a bit of time to take down, the big robot enemies here can all be taken down easily when you know their tricks.

So it was hard to finally get to the big set of final missions when the enemies are just the same set of things but in bigger numbers. So, for me, the final set of missions for the main storyline were more of a slog than anything else.

The last 2 big fights were so different from the main gameplay that I was irritated a bit. I mean, If your game was mostly tower defense then near the end you suddenly make it into a rail shooter, not a lot of players will be happy.

However, the journey going there was the fun factor. I just wish the other characters other than the main Heroine was more interesting.

At the very least Im happy to have experienced it but… Im not going to be very excited for any sequels though.
